  1. A lot of local police have mounted divisions and the federal gov't has several of these in rural areas as well as the border patrol has a mounted division.  There may be others as well though these come to mind off the top of my head.


  2. Sure ... most cities have at least a small mounted division.  Mostly used for keeping order during parades, etc.

    You'll also often see mounted officers in county and state parks.

Yes most major cities in the U.S. hold a mounted unit within the police force.  It is considered highly prestigous and is usually one of the more arduous entrance processes.  Most officers must demonstrate prior knowledge of equestrian or general horseback training.  Another commonly abscure fact is that, like canine divisions, the horses themselves are given a rank, i.e police officer, sergeant, lieutenant.
