  1. no this is China.   it was a british crown colony won as a result of the underhanded opium wars .   yes, the british brought drugs (evil white powder) into the country to drug up the peoples and they tricked them into signing a document that gave up their ownership of the land. they had enough force to back it up but really was not needed (which should tell us something about China other than proganda ) we hear.  prior to the year 2000, HK was returned to China.  It continues to have a business autonomy / seperate from China / that encourages trade/ keeps the commerce.   i believe that other areas of China are now bigger than HK for manufacturing.   Kowloon used to be the side that was for manufacturing and downtown HK was for business .      Shanghai has become one of the most modern citiies in the world.  the skyscrapers /skyline / architecture is very sleek / unique.

  2. Part if China. It was a colony of the UK and on dec. 31 1999 they handed it to China, and it is now an autonomous economic area.

  3. Never has been an independent country. Was a british territory until a few years back, but is now fully a part of China though it has some special priviledges that the rest of China does not have.

  4. It has always been part of China.  The British colony was established on a 99 year permit from China.

At the end of that time, the Island went back to Chinese rule.

  5. china
