  1. I believe that it will Upscale the DVD's to 1080p...to watch true high definition DVDs you would need the optional HD DVD Player (sold seperatly) However i wouldn't suggest getting that because the HD DVD discs are no longer since Blu-Ray took over the market.

  2. No - the last I heard you had to buy an HD-DVD add on, but before they were discontinued.  I haven't heard if they have the bluray equivalent add on for them yet, but they're not built in like the PS3.

  3. With an HD connection the 360 will "technically" support 1080p movies. The only problem is that almost all HD movies are far too big to fit onto a DVD(7 gigs). For this reason we have HD-DVD(15 gigs) and Blu-Ray(25 gigs).

You'll need to get the HD-DVD attachment to play true HD movies. Even so, I wouldn't do that if I were you. HD-DVD is being beaten to death by Blu-Ray right now, and soon the entire format will be completely extinct.

So, to answer your question, the 360, as of now really isn't a good solution for an HD movie player. Get yourself a Blu-Ray player or a Ps3(probably the best choice to be honest) if you want to watch HD movies.

However, it might also be noted that the 360 has an upscaler chip in it. It can take the 480p movie and upconvert it to 1080p. It's not really HD, it just removes some of the effects of pixelation. A lot of people think it just makes the movie blurrier.
