  1. I was a YMCA preschool director until this year and, yes, we had a preschool graduation.  The children said a prayer, sang "i Believe I Can Fly', recited a 'thank you' poem to the parents that our teacher wrote, and received their diplomas.  We only have 2 classes (1 is the 4's and 1 is the 3's).  Everone participated.  The 4's received a diploma graduating to kindergarten and the 3's received one graduating to pre-k.  The 4's wore a cap and gown and the 3's wore nice clothing and had a "I am special" badge on (as they will wear gowns and caps next year).  We had the ceremony outside at about 7:00 p.m.   All the families attended (with most bringing grandparents).  We then went inside for cake and punch.  The entire center was decorated by the b/a kids that day.  And during the ceremony I gave special gifts to the teachers of both the programs as well as other noteable staff.

It was a beautiful ceremony and the families loved it.  One parent even did a video and offered to all the other parents.

  2. Because going to a big school with big kids is scary, so this helps them feel "bigger" and ready to move forward...plus its so darn cute.

  3. Many preschools have a ceremony for their classrooms. Personally I don't like a graduation formality. I prefer a program with songs, a bit of drama, nursery rhymes and snacks. Children prefer party over ceremony I think and it is more age appropriate. They like to perform their songs etc. by age four and some threes too.
