  1. The average golfer will try many different things to improve their game.  Trying to strike a certain golf ball with a certain golf club presents a dilemma that is 99% unsolvable.

No matter the equipment, the game of golf depends mostly on the swing mechanics/speed of the golfer when the maximum effort happens at impact.  Each brand of ball has different "feels" designed for the variances of the individual golfers' swing, and also what is wanted for the end result.

Such as, "higher trajectory", or "softer feel", or "extra long", etc, etc, the list goes on and on.   Golf clubs manufactures will make the same claim.  It is a proverbial "c**p-shoot" for the average golfer.

The key thing to remember is that it doesn't mean a hill of beans what kind of clubs or balls you use, the end result rests solely upon striking the ball at the optimum point of impact.  How often does that happen with us "average" golfers?"   Even the pros will make a bad shot, albeit not near as often as we do.  If we were that consistent, we would be the ones being watched on TV, instead of watching TV.

Bottom line--There is nothing wrong with being an average golfer.  If you like the game, play it!  Have fun.  Make it fun.  If you can do that, the passion for the game of golf will always be there.

  2. The majority of golf balls are pretty much the same. All premium brands are similarly priced as are other grades down the line. Most perform the same. Some have harder covers than do others. The benefits to the average golfer ( around 18 handicap) are negligible. Many prefer the premium brands more from the standpoint of ego rather than performance.

  3. these balls are a waste ofmoney for the average player . require high swing speed , perfect contact . 7 handicap and under . save your money . the savings on one dozen will get you buckets of range balls , or a lesson from a pro . nxt is the most versitile if you bare in the 40 plus age bracket , noodle etc , more accuracy equal distance , ball does not scuff . stays white forever . people who play the expensive balls just feeding thier egos . there is no noticable gain . just on credit card invoice . good luck .

  4. Well if you are a pretty good golfer the ball helps quite a bit but if you pretty much just want to hit the golf ball straight and not worry about that extra 5-10 yards and not worry about spin you don't need these types of balls

  5. i don't think the average golfer needs those $40/doz golf balls. the pros have insane swing speeds needed to compress those balls and get maximum distance, and to make the most of the spin. just find a mid level ball that u like. i personally like the D2 Feels.

  6. no .. the avg golfer is 95 ... a premium brand golf ball like the prov1 or nike 1 will have no effect except in you head when you slice it into the trees and lose it then it will mess your game up because your thinking of that 5 dollar ball you just creamed into the water hazard.... Get the cheap stuff unless you shoot in the 70's

  7. Absolutely.  Dude, I punished a drive with a Nike Platinum ball over the weekend.  I usually use the One Black since it is longer off the tee, but I smashed the Platinum.  It's designed for someone with Tiger Woods swing speed.  That ain't me.  The real benefit from using a premium ball is around the greens.  Chipping and short approach shots land softly and bite on the greens.
