  1. Yes, there exists high modern building but outside the historical center of the cities, which, in many occasions is very extended, as for example in Rome... It is a matter of respect to the essential principals of aesthetics...

  2. The only skyscrapers in italy (or at least the most famous) is in Milan is called the "Pirellone" http://www.italiamiga.com.br/noticias/ar...

  3. Rome has none.  Milan and Naples have several each.  Milan's were mostly built in the 50s and 60s.  Naples has a business district with gleaming new skyscrapers but they are all around 400 feet high or so.

Milan, in the next few years, will be under substantial construction as plans for as many as 5 skyscrapers over 500 feet are in the works.

  4. Nope, no real skyscrapers in Rome.  At least, not in the historical city center.  Certainly none like your average U.S. city or even London or Paris.

  5. No.  By Italian law, no building can be taller than the spire of St. Peter's Basilica.  The law may require that no building in the country be taller than St. Peter's Basilica, I don't recall if the law applies to the whole country.

  6. Not many, because the scare of earthquakes.
