Does the clothing fabric modal shrink?

I bought a pair of zara tshirts that said on it 100% modal. When it came to washing them, I put them on a gentle cycle on cold water. After I took them out, i can never wear them again, they shrunk. When I ironed them they went back to their original size but they lost their shape so I cannot still wear them. I read alot that Modal does not shrink but mine did without even drying them, I let them hang to dry. :(
