  1. Nope.  They're either 'bleeding-heart' liberal types, or far-left wing-nuts.

  2. Yes, but the liberal wing has shriveled up and died, due to bribes, resulting in triangulation and compromise.

There's hope.  They keep talking about the necessity to move to the middle.  I doubt they will though.  That would require moving too far to the left.

  3. The conservative Democrats of 50 years ago were Dixiecrats and they are now largely Republicans except for a few survivors such as Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV).  Byrd is probably the closest to a classical conservative you'd easily find in either party these days.

The Blue Dog Democrats are mostly centrists.  I wouldn't really call them conservative.

The Republicans, however often they repeat the word, aren't conservatives either.  Belief in the limits of what government can do and especially in the principle that unchecked grants of power to government (or to anyone) inevitably results in corruption is an absolutely fundamental point of real conservatism.  But Republicans, who now believe that the president should act almost as an elected Emperor, especially when the president is of their party, have completely rejected this principle.

  4. Yes they are still around.  They are called the Blue Dog Coalition or Blue dog democrats.  There are also liberal republicans too.  You'd be surprised who calls himself that.

  5. You would have to define conservative to answer this question but there are many democrats that are religious and want small government.

  6. Tony..here I am! I'm a conservative Dem/Left leaning Rep...aka Indy!!

(I'm voting Indy for my districts house seat..)

  7. you know what's funny, every election year, the Dem is compared to JFK, while the Rep is compared to Reagan.

In reality, the closest thing to JFK since JFK was actually Reagan!

If JFK was alive today, (and if his name was not Kennedy) , he'd be kicked out of the Dem party, just like Lieberman.

  8. Google the "blue dog coalition". 50 or so representatives who are quite conservative on some matters.

  9. Sure.  Joe Liebermann is a good example.  He's really more of a Neo-Con than the Democrat he claims to be.  Only in Connecticut.

  10. Moderate Dems, sure. I know them both.  One lives in nursing home in FL. the other moved to Arizona and hasn't been heard from since.

  11. Kennedy I believe was somewhat conservative, if not he definitely wasn't a radical like Obama. I think Joe Lieberman is the last of his kind and Nancy Pelosi wants to get rid of him. That's okay though, he'll get a better job in the McCain cabinet.

  12. The Democrat Party was a great party with good ideas up until 1968. After that it went away.

  13. There are moderate democrats.

  14. Not much of one.  Instead they have conservative "factions" - socially conservative religious nuts, fiscally conservative economic wonks, and of course the Libertarians who are conservative in their zeal for small government (but are socially liberal).

  15. I would ask the same of the Republicans...

  16. No, in effect, they booted Lieberman out.
