Does the cost of the school you want to go to affect how much you receive from fasfa?

I'm applying to colleges soon and there is a out of state school that caught my eye and i was wondering if since i would have to pay out of state tuition would that affect how much i get from fasfa if i qualified for anything, and how soon can you fill the fasfa form out?

  1. No, FAFSA has limits on all of it's elements and they won't cover an out of state college. If it's a private college there is the possibility that the college itself will give you grants and additional loans. If it's public, that's less likely.


  2. You can fill it out now. Usually out-of-state tuition is higher than the normal in-state tuition in most schools, so you may have to pay more than those who reside in that state. FAFSA doesn't actually give any money, it's an application for grants and scholarships (like Pell or Academic Competitiveness). If your financial aid is lower than the cost of going to school, you have to pay the difference. If it exceeds the cost of going to school, you get money back.
