I am looking to take a cruise this summer and I will only be 18 and my boyfriend 19, I have heard that when cruise ships get a certain amount of miles off the coast that the drinking age drops to 18? Anyone know?

  1. If you go on a cruise out of the U.S., the drinking age on the ship is 21 no matter where it is.  It has nothing to do with the ships registry but the home port of call for the ship.

  2. You did not say if you and your boyfriend are going to be cruising as a couple.  If so, you are not going to be cruising.  You would have to be married since neither of you are 21 and therefore cannot cruise - unless you have proof of marriage.

Looks as though drinking is the least worry you should have about cruising.

  3. I'm pretty sure they will follow the laws of whatever country the ship is registered in. So if it is a US ship, it will follow US laws, and the age will be 21.

  4. No.  The drinking age stays 21 irregardless of where the ship is going.

ps  At your age it will be almost impossible to book a cruise.  I know that Carnival requires you to be at least 21, or have a 25 year old in the same cabin.

  5. The drinking age remains 21 on the cruise ship. while at the ports the drinking age depends on that particular countries laws. Sorry, but if you're under 21 you ain't drinking on board
