  1. The driving distance statistic for the PGA golfer is set up on similar holes, one going East, the other West  or one going North and the other South. The purpose is to negate the effect of wind. The player hits one ball in each direction, the measurements are taken and the average is recorded as the driving distance. The holes are longer than any player can hit the ball and are usually relatively flat.

  2. No. The PGA picks the easiest driving holes. This is because they are looking at distance, not accuracy. Only drives in the fairway are counted.

  3. No

  4. No.   The PGA picks a few holes from each tournament and uses those driving distances to calculate the average that they list.

  5. Driving distance stats are skewed anyway. They don't take into account if a player uses a three wood or 2 iron off of the tee. Just total distance traveled. The pga selects 5 par fours and 2 par 5's at every tournament, and collects the approxamate stats for the players. most stats are +or- 1% though. The only thing that needs to be factored now, is Driver distance, not Driving distance. Loft should be tracked per player too. Tiger and Ernie use a 7.5* loft. While Freddy is using an 8.5, and trevor immelman a nine. This means the same swing will do different things depending on the player. so i say look at the top of the leaderboard. That is all that really matters.

  6. Everybody else is right here. Look at this stat...

Bubba Watson - He can hit the ball 350 with his driver consistently but his average drive (and he's #1 on tour driving distance) is listed at 310.  310? I've hit drive 310 and he's the longest? The stat is rubbish. Just don't bet Bubba you can beat him on the range.
