  1. MRI +CT

    they can tell us "in general" about the  form of the anatomic organ or  substrate as you knew that there are many maladies without malformation  "morph pathological" so you cant se the metabolic changes at this level or Minor physicals changes......

    good luck

  2. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (or Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI)) is primarily a medical imaging technique most commonly used in Radiology to visualize the structure and function of the body. It provides detailed images of the body in any plane. MRI provides much greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body than does computed tomography (CT), making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncological (cancer) imaging.

    Combining MRIs with other imaging methods can often help the doctor make a more definitive diagnosis.

    MRI images taken after a special dye (contrast) is delivered into the body may provide additional information about the blood vessels.

    An MRA, or magnetic resonance angiogram, is a form of magnetic resonance imaging, which creates three-dimensional pictures of blood vessels. It is often used when traditional angiography cannot be done.

    In clinical practice, MRI is used to distinguish pathologic tissue (such as a brain tumor) from normal tissue. One advantage of an MRI scan is that it is harmless to the patient. It uses strong magnetic fields and non-ionizing radiation in the radio frequency range. Compare this to CT scans and traditional X-rays which involve doses of ionizing radiation and may increase the risk of malignancy, especially in a fetus.

    A chest MRI provides detailed pictures of tissues within the chest cavity, without image blocking by overlying bone. It may be used to:

        * Clarify findings from previous x-rays or CT scans

        * Show the structures of the chest from multiple angles

        * Help diagnose abnormal growths and provide information for the staging (such as the size, extent, and spread) of tumors in the chest cavity; MRI can distinguish tumors or other lesions from normal tissues

        * Show lymph nodes and blood vessels

        * Evaluate blood flow

        * Avoid the dangers of angiography, or of repeated exposure to radiation.

    An abdominal MRI provides detailed pictures of the belly area from many different views. It is often used to clarify findings from previous x-rays or CT scans.

    This test may be used to diagnose or evaluate:

        * Abnormal growths and tumors

        * Blood flow

        * Blood vessels

        * Lymph nodes

        * How certain organs work

    MRI can distinguish tumors from normal tissues and can help the doctor determine the tumor's size, severity, and spread. This is called staging.

    MRI provides detailed pictures of the heart and blood vessels from many views.

    It may be used to diagnose:

        * Heart muscle damage after a heart attack

        * Birth defects of the heart

        * Heart tumors and growths

    MRI is sometimes used to avoid the dangers of angiography, repeated exposure to radiation, or the use of iodine-based dye (contrast).

    It may provide additional information when an echocardiogram is unclear.

    MRI provides detailed pictures of the brain and nerve tissues from multiple angles without obstruction by overlying bone. In fact, about 90% of all MRI scans are for brain or spine disorders.

    MRI is the procedure of choice for most brain disorders. MRI is particularly useful in brain and neurological disorders, because it can clearly show different types of nerve tissue. It provides clear pictures of the brainstem and posterior brain, which are difficult to view on CT scan. It is also useful for the diagnosis of demyelinating disorders. These are disorders such as multiple sclerosis, which cause destruction of the myelin covering of the nerve.

    MRI is a noninvasive procedure that can evaluate blood flow and the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). MRI can distinguish tumors or other lesions from normal tissues.

    MRI is an imaging test used to look into back pain and spreading leg pain. MRI is excellent at showing changes, such as from arthritis, which may be narrowing the spaces through which the spinal nerves travel.

    In addition, MRI can show disease of the lumbar discs that may be bulging and compressing the spinal cord.

    An MRI may be done after traumatic injury if you have weakness or paralysis. MRI is better than CT scans at evaluating abscesses, tumors, or other masses near the spinal cord. While CT is better at detecting fractures of the vertebrae, MRI can detect slight changes in the bone which may be due to an infection or tumor.

    Spine MRI may show the exact location of tumors or other problems of the spine, spinal cord, or disks.

    It provides detailed pictures of hard-to-view areas of the spine, including the:

        * Bony segments

        * Soft tissue

        * Spinal canal

    MRI works better than CT scan in evaluating abscesses, tumors, or other masses near the spinal cord. While CT is better at detecting fractures of the vertebrae, MRI can detect subtle changes in the bone that may be due to infection or tumor.

    Spine MRI may be performed in emergency settings to rule out spinal cord damage when there is weakness or paralysis.

  3. An MRI is as good as it gets in terms of imaging, although for certain conditions we prefer a PET scan. MRI's are good for orthopedics, head, spine. For chest and abdomen we normally use CT's. MRI's can show some diseases better: Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Brain tumors. For women who have breast implants, MRI's are better than mammograms or sonograms.

  4. we can see clearly the nerves and the blood vessels innervated in the body.

  5. No, there are hundreds of diseases and conditions that can't be seen. However, MRI and CT provide a very good detailed image of anatomy and condition of the body.
