the specs say it will do up to 50 mph and go up to 35 miles on a charge. what i would like to know if anyone that has one of these went as far and fast as the manufacturer states it will? for $2000 it seems like a very good deal. with gas the way it is, i could comute back and forth to work on the electric moped and just charge it while i am working. the fuel i could save would be incredible. i would really appreciate some feedback on this electric moped. sincerely, Rich e ps(you can check out the electric moped at ...www.neoscooters,com)

  1. I'm also considering purchasing an electric scooter now, so I've been doing some pretty extensive research.

I've heard only bad things about the x-treme line of scooters.  Basically everyone says they're cheap for a reason.  They're rather poorly made and break very quickly, then once they're broken the sellers won't honor the warranty and things like that.  I was tempted to buy one myself, but I think it would be a mistake.

Also, the maximum speed cited by the manufacturer is always a bit high.  You need to take off about 5-10 mph for a realistic top speed.  The range they cite is if the scooter is going at about half speed.

There are some good scooters available in that price range with similar specs though.  Personally I'm probably going to buy the iMoto2 Verde scooter, which only costs $1200 and goes 40 miles/charge with a realistic top speed of 25-30 mph (manufacturer claims 35 mph, but a local shop tested it at a bit above 25 mph).  That's a great deal as long as it's not cheaply made.  Unfortunately this seems to be a very new company and scooter, so their website (imoto2.com) is still under construction, so it's hard to know where you can buy one.  I only know about them because the local electric cars shop (http://www.daviselectriccars.com/ ) has them, which is good, because then I can test it out before buying.

Here's what it looks like with the specs and everything - it seems to have sold in Hawaii first and now is selling in California too:

Another good one I've found is the EVT 4000e which has a top speed of about 30 mph and range of about 25 miles for about $2400.  I've seen some really good reviews of this one.

The best resource for information about electric scooters and other electric vehicles is probably the EV Finder website linked below.  It describes the products and gives links where you can find them in the US, including the EVT 4000e.  Good luck.

  2. I doubt it.  If used under IDEAL conditions it might.

Where I live, that ain't fast enough to keep you safe on the road; AND I couldn't even get to town on the range you stated as it is farther than that.

Possibly could be used in a big city, but then why not use the local mass transit system?
