okay so i noticed i started getting really thirsty about 6 days ago. On Saturday I would find times when I had to stop a phone call to get a drink I was so desperate. Then on Sunday I noticed I was thirsty again. Then on Sunday I got sick with a bad cold and I found I had to wake up to drink. The last 3 days have been the same. At work I've needed to get a drink and drink heaps of water. Yesterday I would have drunk about 2.5L at least. I've had some sudafed phenylephrine and some echinacea with Vitamin C lozenges. Pineapple juice in the mornings and trying to eat as normal. I've just had 4 cups of water in addition to the one this morning and the juice.

Is this the flu or something else?

  1. Flu. You have a fever and that is making you thirsty.

  2. I think the sudafed might be dehydrating you.  Depending on where you live, you might be having some seasonal allergies.  That could also make you thirsty.  If you don't have a fever or muscle aches, I wouldn't worry about it unless it hangs on for several weeks.  Caffeine can also dehydrate you, so you may want to watch you intake. Hope this helps.

  3. your body craves Potassium from fruit juice and sodium and chloide from water

your electrolyte levels are bad due to the flu;  a.

  4. It could be from allergies. I have also heard that being really thirsty is a sign of being diabetic. Some medicines can make your mouth really dry also.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, I have to have something to drink with me at all times. I have been like that for a long time and there was no real reason for it but now I take a few daily medicines that has made my thirst even worse.
