Question:

Does the gymnastics minimum age apply only to team/all-around competition?

While watching the uneven bars, I noticed gymnasts that were listed as 15 years old on the coverage (NBC).

So, I don't see the minimum age (16) coming into play there at all, because if they are known to be 15 they wouldn't be allowed to compete.

  1. Your passport must state you are turning 16 the year of the olympic games, so a passport stating you are 15 now but if your birthday is on or before NYE, you're OK

  2. u have 2 b 16 before it starts i think.

  3. No it applies to being eligible to compete all-together. As for the age thing, I believe that you can be 15 but turning 16 in the year of the games.

  4. To anything gymnastics, be it team or individuals.

  5. If a gymnast is ineligible to compete then her score in the team competition will also be thrown out so the age requirements apply to anything the gymnast is competing in.

  6. they have to be 16 to compete in any olympic gymnastic event or turn 16 before the end of the olympic year

  7. No, the age limit applies to all gymnasts, regardless of the event. The official age limit, however, is "the athlete must turn sixteen in the year of these Olympics". So, technically a 15 year old could compete because they may be turning 16 before the end of 2008. A 14 year old, however, would not be able to compete.
