And if so - which one is it? And how did the dance come to be associated so strongly with the sport of rugby?

A haka is the generic name given to a Maori war dance.

THe most famous of haka is "Ka Mate", performed by the NZ Rugby Union team, The All Blacks before each Test Match.

All the south pacific rugby teams have a haka. Western samoa, tonga, fiji and new zealand. New Zealand's is just the most famous. They are the regional dances that used to be performed at the start of a battle to strike fear in the oponent.

When the teams play each other they do it at the same time. It looks awesome.

The Haka is a New Zealand War dance done by the Maori. It was used to put fear into opponents, ask for blessing from the gods and give thema n adrenaline kick. Exactly the same in rugby!

It can also originally be used as a challenge to visitors tot he tribe's village (pa) to see if they are fiend or foe.
