Does the horse's odds in his past performance tell you anything about the competitiveness of the races?

A horse had odds of 13-1 two races back. Is this a competetive race. A horse had 3-2 odds three races back. Is this a competitive race

  1. The morning line odds are a prediction by the track handicapper on what he feels the public will wager & then it's up to the public to determine the post-time odds on each runner.

    It is not so much odds in the past performance, but how the racer performed, type of field, surface, etc. For example, a runner moving up in class may have had "low" odds, but would be considered a long-shot in better company, while a drop in class could mean a racer who has struggled - and the odds long - may be in the right spot to challenge for a win...and the ML odds would drop, accordingly.


  2. Odds are only what the public thinks about the horse's chances, not about the quality of the race. The quality of the race is the type of race it is, Claiming, Allowance, Handicap, Stakes.
