  1. The IP address will change.  Each modem will have a unique IP address.  The wireless router you are connecting to though may assign an internal IP address that matches the one you have when connected to your network, but given it is a separate network, this is fine.

  2. yes unless by some strange coincidence both networks are using the IP addressing scheme - then the answer would be no.  If you are using DHCP then you will be handed out a different IP address depending on where you connect.

  3. Yes. Unfortunately so does your legal status. If you use it without his consent, or with his consent if you do not live in the same household it is illegal. Up to 5 years in prison illegal. His ISP would be able to prosecute for this, several of them have already done so successfully. If his connection is encrypted, you jump into the 30 year prison category for just trying to break his encryption.

  4. Oh yea... see. you're connecting to a different source, that that router automatically assigns you a IP Address.

  5. It is not yet illegal to use an UNSECURED wireless network in the US. However, if you logon to a secured network without permission, it IS illegal. And yes the public IP address (ie not 192.168.x.x) will change.

  6. yup! because you will use a different access point.
