Sadly the KKK is not a myth or even part of folklore, they are a tried and true group that is still quite active here in the states as well as abroad.  Actually, if you were to google your  town/or if you have a very small town a larger city near you and the KKK you'd probably find that they had had a rally there sometime within the past couple years.  :-P
