  1. The poppy fields in Gallipoli is the first world war against the Turks, Kokoda track is the second world war against the Japanese. Not really related.

  2. NO Connection At All

The poppy was "chosen" as a symbol of Australian diggers, due yes to the poppy fields in Gallipoli.

Gallipoli was the first major battle fought by the Australians as a group - yes there had British commanders, but fought as own divisions, not mixed in with the British.

The Kokoda Track was one the first major battles fought by Australian troops in World War II in the Australian region.  We were fighting in France, but this was the first battle near home turf, other than Singapore which we were clearly beaten.

In the Kokoda track for the first 6-12 months a majority of the soliders holding back the Japanese, were not "proper" soliders but members of the Australian Militia - men not deemed fully fit for war service, but could do something and formed together to defend Australia.  But when the Japanese got that close we had no other men to use.  Eventutally we got our troops back from the Western Front, but by then most of the hard work had been done.  This time it was the Australians, and no w one else, other tan of course the local Papuans who without we would have lost.

Both of these battles are defining moments in Australian military history, probably the 2 biggest and that maybe why they is some connection in you mind (or the school essay?)

  3. no

  4. Gallipoli is in the European part of Turkey. The Kokoda track goes through the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea

Not really, aside from possible smuggling.

The only connection the 2 have is a proposal to turn the Track in to an " Australian heritage destination", much like the ANZAC cove in Gallipoli.
