Does the length of your monthly cycles affect your due date? Or is it always 40 weeks from the start of your last period?

  1. The length of the monthly cycle has nothing to do with the time it takes to develop a fetus from one cell accepting the sperm to a full term infant.  Many different things can affect the 'due date' but in general, the 'due date' of every baby is 40 weeks after the 'start' of your last period.  I've had 'full term' babies from 42.5 weeks to 38 weeks ... which averages out to 40 weeks development.

  2. always counted as 40 weeks from ur last period, although babies dont always arrive on time

  3. It's 40 weeks from the date of conception (i.e. when the egg was fertilised). The length of the monthly cycle has nothing to do with the development of the child in the womb.

  4. Yes it can affect your due date a lot! If you have long cycles but they're reliable, you can tell your doctor your normal cycle length and they'll calculate ovulation from that and add 2 weeks to get your due date.

So if you're normally on a 58-day cycle, you would have ovulated on CD44 and they'll pretend your LMP was CD30 (ie: your cycle of 58 days minus 'normal' cycle of 28 days = 30)

If your cycles are long but irregular, then it's WAY harder to calculate until the fetus is big enough that they can measure it on an ultrasound, at which point they'll reassess your due date.

But if you know when you ovulated for sure, even if you're irregular, be sure to tell your doctor. They'll minus 14 days from your ovulation and use that to count forward 40 weeks.

  5. It is always counted as 40 weeks from your last period but it doesn't mean you baby will be born on that date the baby decides when it wants to come. But if you don't remember your dates the doc can measure the baby and work out how many weeks pregnant you are.

  6. Nope always 40 weeks from your last period.
