I know my local dump sells bags of "home-made" compost - but do they have the facility to take food waste as well? Do local dumps generally have this facility?

  1. no there are different kinds of dumps.  there is garbage and trash

  2. If you are talking about vegetable matter then bung it in the garden-waste container at the refuse site.

Maybe you could get a pig to eat the rest!

  3. I can remember when i was growing up and my dad would

always through food like old leftovers in the garden , which

helped to make the soil richer for planting.I remember that

the soil would be nice and black. Unless you have a whole

lot of food then toy may need to find out about a facility.Someplaces send there food  to pig farms. If not  though it in your flower beds and mix it in the dirt, soon you'll

have the nicest flowers and plants on your block.

  4. Yes then it goes to land fill.

  5. no they don,t that why the garbage stinks it the wasted food.

  6. I hope so. In san francisco we do. If not call your garbage deptment and ask why they dont.

  7. yes

  8. idk

  9. hi, you can only compost uncooked food waste- never cooked food waste.

Why not make your own compost?

  10. Most family's don't composed so the answer is defiantly yes./Ken

  11. why dont you make compost yourself it is very easy

    bones,treetrunks,cardboard,egg... clothes(if they are organic),p**p,leaves,kitchen waste,foodscraps,newspaper,

your mother inlaw and kitty litter

    and even the dead cat

All can be put on the compost heap

as long as you seal it with a covering of leaves .or put a piece of plastic on top ,

keep it moist and in the shade ,it will then get hot enough to kill all parasites

the worms will devellop, and take care of everything ,the moisture helps decomposition

the plastic keeps in the moisture and protects the worms from predators .like chickens ,birds armadillos, and even dogs .i have seen going in to eat my worm culture

you could add a bit of lime now and again

to make the process more potent

    Source(s):

make the compost in a shallow hole ,so that it retains more humidity,

about 2 square meters is good ,and have it under a tree or put a little roof over i t,which does not have to be water proof ,so a palm thatch is enough,

and makesure the garden sprinkler gets there or spray some water on it ,at least once a week, dont have it water logged or the worms will drown or leave

Organic waste is responsible for 70% of contamination in Land fills if it goes out with the trash ,so please do not do this

    RECYCLING

Cardboard is also acceptable for recycling

so is glass if you classify it in colors, and

    aluminium cans

  12. How much food waste do you have -- enough to get a local pig-man to collect it? that's what most caterers do!

  13. Start your own compost pile and grow your own food.

  14. no,they dont have, they only take the waste dump.

  15. In germany they get rid of their organic waste separately every two weeks. This means all food, vegetable matter, garden waste. I beleive they take it to be made into compost

  16. no they don't that is what your wheelie bin is for, but you could put it in a bin bag and take it that way.
