  1. NO, That's not true.


  2. I agree with Brian.

    The "microwaves" are emitted in a beam by a magnetron which must be powered to work (an electrical device). Just like a light bulb will cease emitting light after the power is switched off :).

  3. They don't.  The microwaves are produced by a high voltage magnetron vacuum tube, which need a power supply.
