I am thinking about joining the air force reserve, but if I want to be in a different state. Do they help pay for you to go there? And also, if I have an issue with asthma can I still do the boot camp?

  1. If you request a transfer you move yourself. In the reserves you go to the unit closest to where you live. Yeah you can get a waiver for asthma

EDIT* bs I got a waiver for asthma.

  2. As far as I know no they won't help to pay you to move.

If you have had issues with asthma since your 13 birthday you are disqualfied from joining.

  3. no they do not.

my husband was a USMC reserve. his unit was stationed out of the city we live in and his company was stationed three states away. so they had to drive there for their drills.

if you want to live in a different state, you need to move their first. then when you go to sign into your new unit, you will sign into the local one.

  4. no,  only AD types get paid relocation.  you will be paying out of pocket to get to all drill weekends/AT.   Asthma past age 13 is a PDQ, no waivers authorized
