I'm really ignorant about the issue so please educate me. does the mind make images the same way televisions do? they both use electrical impulses correct? how does data get onto radio signals? like I said I don't know anything so if you could point me in the right direction to answering these questions I would be very grateful, thanks!

  1. No, there's no little TV inside your brain. If there were, who would be watching it? And, wouldn't there have to be a little TV inside his brain too?  Such a concept is called a "homunculus" in mind theory, and is about as far as most people get in understanding the relationship between mind and body. However, the concept is vacuous.

The mind the does not "make images", but interprets signals from neurons on the back of the retina where an *actual* image is projected by the lens. Try to understand the distinction. Here is an example of each:

    Image:  :-)

    Interpretation: "sideways smiley face"

Get it? One is a distribution of light on the computer screen. The other is a symbolic representation of it in English. No one knows what "machine language" the brain uses. The process of going from image to interpretation is very involved. That's why the brain is so complicated.

Now, as to how the information about an image is transmitted (whether by radio or nerve fiber), it entails variations in, or "modulation" of, the normal state of transmission of the medium carrying the signal. In nerves that mean electrochemical impulses. In radio it means variations in the amplitude or frequency of the radio waves.

  2. The images on digital screens are made up of things called pixels.  These pixels are very small and each one is colored in a certain way as to collectively make a whole picture.  Kind of like mosaic artwork.
