Does the mini dvd????

Question

hi all im looking at getting a canon dc220 and i see it says mini dvd!!!!

does this mean i can do a movie from the camcorder take this mini dvd out and will it play straight away into my dvd player?

im confused :(

miniDVD has two definitions, separate from each other:

1) In this meaning of miniDVD, it is not a real format, but a hack instead that uses standalone DVD players' abilities to play back regular CDs.

Basically miniDVD is a regular CD that has the same structure as regular DVD-Video has. Most of the standalone DVD players can be fooled to think that the disc inserted is a regular DVD-Video disc and to play it.

Biggest problem with miniDVDs is the fact that DVD movies tend to take appx. 4GBs of space and in CD you can just fit ~700MB of data -> one movie ends up taking 6 or more CDs. Therefor most of the people don't use miniDVDs, but use some other standalone DVD player-compliant formats instead, like VCDs, SVCDs or their varieties.

2) Also, more officially, miniDVD (also called as mini DVD, Mini DVD and MiniDVD) refers to a standard DVD disc which is otherwise identical to the normal DVD, but has smaller diameter of only 8cm.

In theory, yes.  Before you can play the DVD in anything other than the camcorder the disk has to be finalised - that means you can't write anything more to it.  The video from miniDVD camcorders tends to be low quality and it's always difficult to edit.  

MiniDVD camcorders are a poor choice.

yes i think a regular DVD player will run your rec. on a miniDVD but im not sure which format it will be in . but there is a cd that comes with the camecorder , aslo i dont think the format will be that alien to us..

aslo ur camcorder works as a mini dvdpalyer also and you can link it to ur computer by fire-wire. intersting but cameras allways need a day or 2 to figure out how to get ur photage eventually they all work in there own humble ways ;)*
