Question:

Does the modern women still wear corsets, in the same manner that women from previous generation did?

As a crossdresser, I tried on a corset today, and liked how it gave me such a feminine figure. But, I wondered how women wore this continiously and why they had to wear this.

Are there women that wear them today as well? As a crossdresser, should I buy some, or go into being a modern woman and wear something else.

  1. Not me. Never have, never will.

  2. Women from the previous generation wore girdles, not corsets.  Women haven't worn corsets since the 19th century.  If your distended middle-aged flab is hanging out after having had one too many babies then by all means wear a girdle to pack it back in.  That's why women wore girdles in the first place.  I haven't seen one since the 1970's, so good luck searching.  As I recall, one of the top brands in the girdle game was "Playtex".

  3. I know one celebrity who wears that everytime she performs. She's Nigella Lowson. if you wonder, search some images. She's overweight and wears the corset to manipulate her figure to look more like curvy than plain fat..

  4. Lol no I haven't heard / seen one woman that still wears a corset unless for lingerie for surprising there special someone

  5. Yeah, I see girls in them. Not daily... it's a dress up thing, the rockabilly style has corsets sometimes... burlesque girls (and guylesque men...)

  6. No I do not wear a corset. It's very hot and I have come to terms with my curves.

  7. Mostly, no.  We have other ways to torture ourselves for the sake of fashion these days, like high heels.   Anyway,  I have one corset that I mainly don't wear because it's dryclean only and gets uncomfortable after a while, but yeah...it smushes me into a nice shape too, and I feel it helps my posture.

If you like trying one on, why not get one, and if you decide you really like it after a while, you can always get more, and if you can't stand it, then at least you don't have a bunch of corsets that you never wear.

  8. I'd buy one and see if it's worth the misery to feel good. Sometimes it is. There are shoes I wear that hurt, but make me so happy that I love wearing them. I try to wear them to places with a lot of sitting. Less pain, and better view of the shoes.Standing may be more comfortable in the corset. If it's not worth it, there are other types of underclothes (Spanx) and tricks to dressing that'll give you a figure you feel great about.

  9. No, I don't think there are any modern women who wear corsets. Or if there are, about as many as there are men who wear powdered wigs :). If you want an hourglass look, try a girdle (like a modern cousin of the corset) with padded bra and panties. I think they might even make body suits that squeeze you and push you out in the right places, and aren't TOO uncomfortable.

  10. Some women still wear them, but I think they're mostly popular with the goth crowd (and a few other subcultures), rather than being a normal part of daily wear. This is probably because they're ridiculously uncomfortable. Being able to breathe is pretty important.

  11. People stopped wearing them because they squeeze your organs together and in extreme cases can restrict breathing. Those things should really come with a warning label!

Some people, mostly the goth/ burlesque community, still wear them.

It depends on the type of crossdresser you want to be. There are modern types of crossdressers, fifties-ish types and victorian types. Go with what you feel comfortable in.

  12. I like corsets, although not tight like they used to wear them in the old days. Yes, the bones give you a lovely hour glass figure and you can get some really beautiful designs. I like to wear a satin and beaded corset with a black velvet shirt over when going out to dine, it looks very pretty.
