  1. Unfortunately not.

Considering that this is a movie-centric laptop with its wider-than-normal-widescreen, having 16:9 aspect ratio and 1600 x 900 resolution, it seems Sony thinks that one who will buy this laptop will also opt for a Blu-ray drive, and such person will prefer to watch high def movies on his laptop rather than connecting his laptop to a TV via S-video out, b/c in this example your laptop screen will create HD-like experience whereas the S-video option will be crappy.

It will be a bit off-topic but you may need to know the following:

2 factors make this laptop widescreen: 16:9 aspect ratio and the 16.4 inch screen.

But in addition to these, what qualifies this screen as HD-like is its resolution, which is 1600 x 900. Bear in mind that 16:9 aspect ratio can be achieved by other resolution combinations as well. And in a 16.4 inch screen, the best and utmost combination you can get is 1600 x 900. The reason why I am repetitively mentioning HD-like is because this laptop does not deliver true HD, and with 16.4 inch screen, this is not possible indeed. You'll need an 18-inch screen as found on the Acer Aspire 8920 to hit true HD resolution, which is 1920 x 1080.

I think this would not be a big deal because it is always said by experts that you will need to have a TV more than 50 inches in order to discern the difference between 1080i and 1080p.

So when it comes to a considerably smaller laptop screen, I believe being whether or not true HD must have an extremely minute difference. And this screen, along with the above-mentioned features, delivers the utmost performance that a 16.4 inch screen can deliver.

Personally, if I was offered a Sony FW laptop w/ 16.4 screen and the very same laptop with 18 inch screen along with true HD resolution, I would definitely choose the former.

Back to your question, despite the foregoing impressive movie-centric facts, I wish Sony had put an S-video out b/c one might need to connect his laptop to a SD definition TV, especially if he wants to watch a SD movie.

Lastly, even if you customize your Sony FW laptop instead of buying a pre-configured one, you are not given the option (free or by paying extra) to include an S-video port.
