This is funny and very timely. There is a site up specifically for the number 39 (thenumber39 <dot> com) and people have been posting strange sightings of that particular number. There seem to be biblical references and it may be numerological significant as well as a number with no square root, etc.

It is also the Atomic Number of the chemical element Yttrium and it is the sum of numbers 4 through 9 (4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 39.)

Very strange indeed.

You probably hear of the number "39" in relation to a famous old movie by Alfred Hitchcock.  The movie is called "The 39 Steps" made in 1935.  In this old thriller -- the 39 steps are continuously mentioned but not explained (basically anyone who started talking about them is mysteriously shot, knifed or meets a speedy demise.)    The hero of the move uncovers the plot and unmasks the true nature of the "39 Steps" -- The Thirty-Nine Steps is an organization of spies who are attempting to steal secrets from the British government.  

All fun, rather thrilling (even by today's movie standards), very cerebral, and all "fake" -- after all, it's a movie!!
