Question:

Does the number of pages in your web site affect search engine rank?

Would it make more sense to have 400 pages of products rather than using mysql to bring in data onto one preformed page? Obviously using a database would be less time consuming, but search ratings are more important to me right now than ease of use.

  2. 400  pages -- mean 400 chances of getting ranked well in the search engine compared to having only 1 page. You'd want to rank well for

    - red widgets

    - blue widgets

    - yellow widgets

    - black widgets

    - and all other variations for each of those 400 products

I suggest you give each product each own page and make sure you write some detailed product description on the page (the more relevant text, the better)

Write good titles with the keywords in the title tags.

Write good meta description tags that have the right keywords for the search engines and the right enticement for the user when they see your site in the search engine results

    Use keywords in the domains

I suggest you start by looking at the Google search results for your keyword terms -- and analyze what the top 10 did to actually land on the top 10.

  3. Each extra page would have more words on it.  Those words would be linked to any search engine.  That's why people add the words "real estate, computer, s*x, government, cars" to their web page.  They get hundreds of "hits' but it's a waste because no one really wanted to go to that page; they got tricked.

  4. The number of pages in your site is not the only criteria a SE uses to rank your site, and dare I say it's not the most significant either. If you want quality targeted traffic you need to promote your site in more ways.

There's a good guide to increase your traffic here: http://traffic-tips-and-tricks.blogspot.... The tips described there are quite simple but very effective.Check out tip number 5, it will help you rank high on search engines in a relatively small amount of time.

And if you're willing to invest some time into it you should also consider reading the book "Guerrilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson, it tells you a lot of practical and effective ways to market your business for very little or no money at all.

    Hope this is useful.
