Does the olive oil treatment work on rats?

My rat has bite mark scabs. Does olive oil help or not? Is it mites or fleas?

  1. So i had a terrible lice infestation (spelling??) on two of my rats a few months ago. You can see them by separating the hair and you will see little reddish brown bugs ALL over. They did give one of my rats some scab marks. I didn't try the olive oil, but I tried a flea and tick spray that was supposed to help. It only made my rats feel sick..so I quickly was set against it. But what did cure it within 1 to 2 days was Advantage for dogs. You only apply one or so drop to the back of the rat's neck and it soaks into the skin. It works amaizingly well and it's perfectly safe to use on rats (I called Advantage to find out). You can only get it by going to a vet and asking for it. Get the smallest one and it should cost about $15.  


  2. you can get cat flea shampoo if you are worried, I personally use polysporin cream on the end of a Q-tip for my rats' sores on scrap marks, sometimes my male rats get a little too rough.
