  2. No. The Ivy League was coined by writers of ages gone by because the  colleges were old, they had Ivy crawling up the brick facings. There was nothing denoting snob appeal. Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Columbia and Pennsylvania made up the " Ivy League " . Since these were the first colleges, they catered to the then wealthy and families have graduated and supported those schools since. One has only to look at the various scholarships offered to particular family offspring to see the effect of longevity. You may consider that snobbish. So Be It !!
