Does the planet have an ideal temperature and thermostat that we are required to regulate?

Who ever said that we are so big and self-important that we think we can regulate mother nature? The only source I know of is the Bible. I have no problem with God telling us we are sterwards of the earth, but that doesn't really square with the greenies New Agey perspective on the environment and global warming.

  1. We don't have the ability to change climate in any direction, and it's a waste of time and money to try.  The current greenies fad has nothing at all to do with science.

  2. Whatever it is, it's not the current temperature, and the reason the current temperature isn't the ideal temperature is the fault of big bad evil American industry.

  3. right, humans have no effect and no control over the climate of the earth....any other point of view is political not scientific...

  4. There really is no optimal temp. It is what it is, and we either adapt or die. Luckily our ancestors from the ice age chose to adapt. I am not so sure current society is smart enough to do that. Some seem to think we should spend time and money trying to change the climate than adapt to it.

  5. That's a good point.  Before we had the media and this scam, people dealth with long periods of coldr climate and much hotter climate.  Their governments didn't turn around and blame the people for those changes.

  6. No.

But it has a NATURAL one, and we're messing that up.  This graph shows it clearly.  Naturally we WERE in a pattern of slow decline of temperature, until we messed it up.  The impact of huge amounts of greenhouse gases is at the very right hand edge of the graph, which is essentially a vertical line.

We need to stop doing that.  As far as whether or not this is scientific, EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.  It doesn't get any more scientific or less political than that.  "Skepticism" about global warming is very political, as can be easily seen on most of the websites promoting it.

"If the Earth came with an operating manual, the chapter on climate might begin with a caveat that the system has been adjusted at the factory for optimum comfort, so don't touch the dials."

  7. Nobody says that there is an ideal Earth temperature that we are required to regulate; in fact, nobody even says that humans need to survive on Earth.  If we would like to, though, it would be much easier if we don't go messing with earth's thermostat--by keeping the temperature more or less what it has been.

  8. Totallly agree, Mankind know's nothing about the planet as a whole yet they are arrogant enough to think they can go by the few 150 years if that of data they have collected. And some are finding now that alot of the data was inaccurate.

Even now termps are being measured with the location of the thermometer by a black top parking area, or near vents to AC units.

Not to mention that no one has considered the alternate problem. What if this is a natural cycle ? What if its normal ? There's plenty of evidence that is it normal......What if in our efforts we do find a way to cool things off in a heating cycle ? Have we considered the fact that we may be interfering with the natural cycle of the planet and do irrepairable harm by messing up the natural heating / cooling cycle and destroy ourselves by throwing it out of whack ?

  9. Yeah,

There's this really big dial that's planted on the side of a rock in Montana.......
