Question:

Does the post office hold the stimulus checks?

My neighbor told me the mailman told him they won't deliver the checks until Thursday or Friday. But my neighbor is really old so I don't know if he's confused or what. Mine was supposed to be mailed no later than July 4th and I still haven't received mine. I just want to know if I still have a few days left...Thanks!

  1. Im not so sure why the post office would have any reason to hold them.

I think your neighbor is mistaken.

  2. 1.  July 4th was the government holiday, so that Friday and Saturday the post offices were closed.  The holidays always push the post office back a day or two, so it should have been mailed no later than Thursday the 3rd, but that only means that the IRS cut the check, not that the post office processed it.

    2.  These checks are not being mailed by any "priority mail" so it can take up to two weeks after the mailing date for you to receive it.

    3.  The postal employees have no clue what date your check would have been cut, and they do not "hold" any mail like that.  The mailman my have been misunderstood, as in the checks wouldn't start to appear until the date promised by the IRS, but the post office isn't holding them.

    4.  You can visit IRS.gov to check on the status of your refund.  Remember that if you owe any government debts, tickets, past due child support, etc, your refund amount will be lessened by these debts or completely taken to pay these debts, which would then mean you won't get a stimulus check.

  3. The mail date and received date will obviously be different. Don't worry, it will come. Your daughter is adorable.

  4. nope they dont hold it - dont worry we just got ours today :)

  5. No, the post office does not hold them. I would give it another day or so. The post office was closed this past Friday, therefore they may take some time to catch up from the lost day.

  6. No, they don't hold them.

I'm in the July 4 group also, in PA, and ours came today
