It just seems like they're on a no-holds-bar mode and are doing everything and anything to bring everyone and everything down.

Yes, it does seem that way.

The only question in my mind is whether they are doing it on purpose or if they are somehow deluded into thinking that they are doing something good.  The fact is, neither explanation makes sense.  Maybe they're insane.
