Question:

Does the president get paid for making appearances?

I know most presidents have usually had busy schedules and back to back meetings, but say a special interest group asked them to make an appearance. Could they make time, and would they be paid for it or is that their duty as president? Can they get paid for it personally or would it have to go to some other account?

  1. That's what they are getting paid for when in office, but when they are out of Office they charge for appearances and speech. hence the tidy money they get including their pension.

  2. yes, perhaps not directly.. but that 100 dollars a plate.. or 1000 dollars per plate at his fund raising dinners are moneys collected and spent largly at his discretion.

  3. While they are in office it is part of their job description.   When they are out of office, yes they make money doing appearances.

  4. yes and no.  as for special interest, they pay through donations and provide certain services before that president became president...thus "buying" the president.  the president then is "obligated" to attend certain functions or do certain things.

  12. I’ll give you a for instance… when Clinton was OUT of office we wanted him to put a lecture together for a seminar we were holding.  His rate for that in 2006 was $180,000.00 for a day conference.  But I agree with all the others here; while IN office I don’t think their allowed to accept funds… just donations or whatever they want to justify it as.

  13. im sure they'll pay him just for sneezing

  14. A sitting President can not be paid; that could be grounds for impeachment.  Former Presidents are free to charge a fee for any appearance they decide to make.

A sitting President's trip expenses are paid for by the taxpayer.
