if so what are the chances of the republicans out law abortion?

ex: Palin is pro life however she believes in teaching abstinence and obviously we see how her daughter ended up so isn't that just a dumb idea why would you not want to teach teenagers how to protect their bodies from not only unwanted pregnancies but also diseases

let's face it people are getting married later in life now do we really expect most 30 year old to be virgins and wait until they are married?

  1. No, the people do and when is everyone going to understand that it is "We the people"? Mr. Bush has ran rough shod over the Constitution for the past eight years and we the people fail to grasp that. Read it, understand it, make every effort to understand it again and know that it can and should not be violated by any president serving the people. The people are the Constitution, If you refuse to be then take what has happened to you with several grains of salt, maybe a tablespoon even.

  2. No, the president and vice president do not have that right, it was upheld in the 1970's by the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade.

The executive branch does not have the power to curtail a woman's right to choose. However, they do nominate justices to the Supreme Court, and if McCain/Palin were to win, they would be almost to certain to place at LEAST one new justice on the court...surely a conservative.

When the balance of political ideology on the court shifts, occasionally old cases are overturned when re-examined, or new cases overrule the effects of old ones.

And also, as shown by Bush's years, they have the power to greatly influence and politicize the Justice Department.

And of course, as long as the evangelicals in America see abortion as a threat, they will believe that the GOP will try to make it illegal. If they do, the Republicans no longer have a key issue to overshadow all others that really matter.

So, to give it a simple answer...technically, no, they do not have the power. Indirectly, they can be responsible for making it illegal.

    Hope this helps. =)

  3. They both want to outlaw abortion. They would rather have their daughter go in to a loveless marriage and have unwanted kids.

Most important, they will be presented that birth control in school prevents abortions later, but they wont care. It is so easy to be a fanatic.

    Reasults dont matter.

  4. Yes, of course if he has the mandate from the voters. So lets go to vote right now!

  5. Not directly, whoever gets elected in Nov. will probably get to appoint 2 or 3 Supreme Court judges. By appointing pro-life judges they can tip the balance of the court. Then all is necessary is a test case. Other pro life organizations will find the right case to to this and fund the legal fees.

  6. Directly, neither is capable of doing any such thing.  A President might be able to influence Congress to do so; but Obama wouldn't try and McCain wouldn't succeed with a Pelosi-led House.

What a President can do is nominate Supreme Court Justices who are likely to overturn, or at least modify, decisions such as Roe v. Wade.  Such nominees must still gain Senate confirmation - but unlike lower level judges the position cannot be left open indefinitely, so sooner or later Congress *must* vote on the nomination.

To address the question it seems you really have, which has nothing to do with the Presidency: It is not reasonable to expect that young people will never have s*x outside of marriage, people being the frivolous beings we are.  Conversely, it is reasonable to propose that they can be expected to accept the consequences of that choice, which does not include treating the execution of a helpless child as a mere convenience.

  7. they have the power to elect supreme court judges who could over turn roe v wade. the next president will select 2-3 judges

  8. You asked do they have the right...As American citizens they have rights. However, in that role they cannot make the law.

As someone else stated, they can appoint judges that could overturn Roe vs. Wade but the liklihood of that happening is slim.

Now, as I have mentioned many, many other times: I wish you kids would just listen to your parents and not have s*x. As Un-fun as it may be, abstinence is the only way to prevent 100% of STD's and pregnancies. As a realist, I remember being a teenageer and know that I didn't listen. Do I regret my choices? Yes. That's why I believe in abstinence. That's probably why Palin taught her daughter the same thing - because she does want to protect her daughter from pregnancy and disease. Her daughter didn't listen.  However, I don't believe that schools handing out condoms and teaching my children explicit sexual knowledge that goes over and above what they "need" to know is going to help out either -and while pregnancies are down (though still out of control) STDs run rampant because despite all this "knowledge" kids still refuse to wear condoms and refuse to get on birth control -and they're free from planned parenthood!

Palin's daughter is 17 years old -she was clearly old enough to make the decision to get on birth control herself. Please stop blaming the parents.

  9. It takes the executive and legislative branches to create a law.  The president and vice president could not make such a law on their own.  Having said that I would hope there comes a day when the killing of babies is outlawed!  Abstinence would keep these diseases and abortions down don't you think?

  10. Never fear dear, it would take a supreme court decision to make it illegal .The family should be responsible for teaching the kids moral values, it isn't up to the Government, or the state.

  11. Not in my America!

  12. No the Executive Branch (the President) cannot "make" law. He can only approve or veto. Laws are created by the Legislative Branch ( Congress).

The VP does have a legislative roll. If the vote on the Senate floor is a tie. The VP is the deciding vote.

You should have learned this stuff in grade school.

  13. No they don't.  Only the Supreme Court can over turn Roe V Wade and none will do so based on the Constitution, there is no legal cause for it to be over turned, whether they disagree with it or not.  So no matter if the next president gets to add judges, the law is not going to change.

I don't expect people to remain virgins, but I do expect adults to take the necessary precautions to prevent pregnancy and not use abortion as a form of birth control.

  14. The president has the power to select members of the Supreme Court, who could overturn the ruling (Roe v Wade) that establishes a woman's right to choose.

Therefore, it is possible that electing another Republican president could bring about a change. However, if Roe v Wade is overturned, then each state could make different laws (we had that for awhile -- and women in desperate situations drove to the states that offered abortions)

    A Vice-President can speak & posture and campaign -- but that's all.

  15. NO.  The only way for abortion law to be changed in this country is for Roe v. Wade to be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.   That won't happen with the Court we have now.    McCain would have to appoint a justice, or more than one who doesn't support Roe.    Then the nominee would have to be confirmed by the Democrat-controlled Senate.  That's not going to happen.   So Obama's assertion that "McCain will outlaw abortion" is a lie.

  16. Like any other federal law, it must pass both houses of Congress, be approved by the President, and be Constitutional according to the Supreme Court.

The President doesn't have any right above that of every citizen. He/she has a job with specific powers and duties.

Yes, abstinence only s*x education is a miserable failure.

"...do we really expect most 30 year old to be virgins and wait until they are married?"

    Yes, some people do.

  17. no that is the province of the courts and the congress, the president and vice president are executives and have very limited powers regarding passage of laws.they can only veto laws such as the one that would have allowed and did for a time the victims of failed abortions to die for lack of medical attention.i think that was one barry tried to slip in there on one of the days he showed up to do his job as senator.

  18. No, not in America.

    Regards.

  19. They don't have the right or power

SCOTUS has already decided Roe v Wade and it is the law of the land

McCains position is that it should be up to the states whether they allow it   or not

  20. He can veto a bill, Congress with 2/3 vote can override veto, make into law.

introduced bill>>>>Passes Congress>>>>President vetoes or doesn't>>>becomes law if signed by pres, can still become a law if veto is overrided.

    Congress>>>makes laws

    President>>>>vetoes or doesn't (approves)

    It's a joint effort really.

  21. Republicans will NEVER make abortion illegal.

this issue gets them votes.  period.

seriously.  from 2000 to 2006 the Republicans owned both houses of Congress and the White House.  Each and every year during that time Ron Paul introduced a bill that would make abortion illegal.  Each and every year, the Republican leadership in Congress shelved the bill so that it didn't even get voted on.
