I'm planning to buy a HD LCD TV in the 40-46 inch range. I MIGHT get a 1080p TV. Will there be any (noticeable) difference in picture quality and the quality of the TV overall between a brand like Sony and a no-name brand?

  1. Yes, quite a difference.

  2. No,  Not if you are  buying a tv with the same level of components   You usually pay more for name brands

  3. to be honest they will be the same qaulity as long as the spec is the same, sometimes you will just be paying for the name

  4. In short, many of the panels (the display)are made by a common company. its the rest of the electronics inside that brings the cost up.

Processors , and power supplies can differ greatly between brands and even in models of the same brand.

A cheap tv is just that, cheap. Quality and overall longevity of components inside a TV can be as different as a Yugo and a Cadillac.

To answer your question , yes you WILL see a difference between a good sony and some no-name brand.

Even if you didnt initialy, you might in 12-18 months

  5. research the consumer affairs complaints first all those off brands are junk   you can't really tell difference the 720 shows a little pixle box and 1080p 1080i are more crisp nothing big.  the top picks are

    Samsung

    Sony

    Toshiba

    Sharp]

    Westinghouse

    stay away from  Vizio

    magnavox

    rca

  6. Absolutely, HD TVs work on a scale of ratings for a reason, the higher the number denotes quality of picture and the P and I rating mean the amount of cycles it goes through to display a picture, I being one line at a time and P meaning 2 lines being processed.  HDMI, Blue Ray and 1080p will of course give you the best picture.  The name brands will be more expensive, one for the name and two for the quality of components they use, ie life of the TV and overall picture quality.  Plus you will get a better warranty and customer service with the name brands.

  7. Generally, any HD LCD tv with 1080p is usually outstanding picture quality. I've looked at many 1080p HD tv's and i haven't seen any noticable difference! (Just make sure the specs are the same)
