The original sentence was "It was like a wall of stone and steel", which uses parallelism, but I'm trying to make the senence unparallel.

  1. I don't know why you would want to make the sentence unparallel, but in any case, it still is.  If you're trying to make it an example of a mistake, put "both" before "like."
