Does the single player mode of world of Warcraft require internet connection??

i have downloaded the iso of warcraft burning crusade, but it does not work without the world of warcraft. I am planning to download the world of warcraft now.. but wil it work without an internet connection?? i dont want to play an online multiplayer game, i just want the story mode.. is it possible for me to play it??

 there is a way to play it on your own you just need to make a private server for wow and play it then
