Hi,

i am just about to more into the world of camcorders and recording my own DVD's. The reason for my question is my parents live in the UK where DVD's are on a different region let alone the TV's run on the PAL format instead of NTSC.

Has anyone use any of these conversion software? I know at minimum I could transfer it over the internet but thats my last resort.

Anyone got any opinions on it.?

  1. converting to PAL from a miniDV source should work ok. however converting an NTSC recorded DVD to PAL DVD will have poor results. That is because DVD is MPEG2 compressed so that 80% of the frames are interpolated. The process of getting 30 fps to 25 fps requires more interpolation. One interpolation step works fine. Two interpolation steps gives poor results.

  2. You may try aimersoft dvd ripper, it can help you convert NTSC dvd to PAL video, then you can re-burn it to DVD and send it to your parents.
