in aussie all nrl clubs have put there support behind the bulldogs to prevent sonny bill from turning out for a french rugby team.my thought is hey let him go rugby league has been poaching rugby players for one hundred years its pay back right.the big concern is that he has just resigned with the dogs and now walked away from his contract and it seems that there is little that can be done about it so does that make contracts as worthless as the paper they are written on.my second point the money that these clubs are throwing at these sports men must be tempting.go back just a few years it used to be rugby players at the end of there cariers going to france and england etc now we have abs in there prime going where will it end

  1. This is a matter of one player sticking to his word really.  SBW just had a c**p agent who let him sign a five year contract that without an out clause.  What this meant is that if SBW was ever unhappy with his contract then there was no way out.

He obviously wasn't happy at the Bulldogs and was probably informed by someone that the only way out of his contract was to get out without telling anyone and sign another contract.  There's really nothing the NRL could do about this.  If he was going to another league club then there are systems in place for stopping this.  Unfortunately for the NRL it's an equivalent situation of SBW leaving league to take up a professional golf career.

I say that Sonny was a young man that trusted the wrong people, made some bad decisions and now his hand was forced to make this decision.  Makes me all happy on the inside to be honest lol!  Stick that up the NRL's *** after all the years we watched you blokes stealing our All Blacks.

To answer the question I think this will be good for rugby and bad for league.  I don't imagine that many players will break contracts like this but I can see a lot of players defecting to union for the $$$.  It's on the cards and I can't wait to see it.

  3. Sonny Bill is doing Aussie Sport a huge favour.  The salary cap is negative on every level: (a) it keeps the players from finding their true worth (b) it doesn't generate club managers whose primary concern is raising money for the club, instead we get the below average businessmen/women who are more interested in petty in-fighting politics than the club.

Professionalism in sport is real and the players should be paid in full for the contribution (ie revenue) their talent generates.

If this issue is managed cleverly we will be able to develop players, sell their contracts to overseas clubs if there is a demand and reap the rewards back to the clubs and leagues who develop that talent and have clauses that enable us to recall them for international duties as required.  Is Gallop up to this challenge?? He should Hire John O'Neill as a consultant, yesterday.
