I can see that with my Wireless PCI Card, it picks up network file speed 54 MBPS, but on Ethernet Cord, it picks up on 100 MBPS. Which device will give you faster download and upload speed?

  1. With your existing equipment your Ethernet (LAN) connection is almost twice as fast as your wireless access speed.  Mb/s not MB/s.  There's a huge difference. Mb=MegaBIT  MB=MegaBYTE.  8Mb=1MB  1000 bits to a Mb.  1000 Bytes to a MB  in network communication.  Different numbers for data storage.

My IEEE 802.11 draft n wireless network is operating at 300Mb/s which is faster then your Ethernet, but I have Gigabit Ethernet that is faster than my wireless also.  To get 300Mb/s wireless both your router and your wireless card have to be IEEE 802.11 draft n.

  2. They'll be the same - your download speed is the SLOWEST speed on the total link between your computer and the site you're downloading from - which is seldom faster than about 0.8mbps these days.

  3. The Wired connection is faster 100 as to 54

  4. Your ethernet card is quicker. You wireless card has the possibility of 56mbps but the farther away from your access point you are, the slower it will go. Most likely you will never see 54 mbps. but both are most likely quicker than your internet connection. Dial up is 56k, dsl ranges from 1.5m to 6m and cable modems are 4m to 8m. so either would be quicker than your internet connection.

  5. the speed on a lan connection is faster than wireless.
