Does the steering wheel remote radio control for eclipse head unit really works?

I have the Eclipse AVN 50D Navigation and DVD unit installed and my car has the factory remote control on the steering wheel. I've seen this device on Ebay and wondering if any of you have purchased one and if so, how has it worked out for you?

If you check eclipses ei-serv portion of their web site, you will see that it works only with toyota and lexus, I think there might be another manufacturer too...  I dont remember.  From what i hear, they dropped it a couple years ago, because of integration with SO many different styles of  both steering funtions and BUS functions from newer vehicles, and the fact that for a hundred and fifty bucks the customer can purchase a new steering wheel interface unit for their vehicle.
