Does the stereo watts matter going with subs?

i got a durabrand stereo for my car

60 watts

idk if thats good or bad

more watts the better or?

  1. Your stereo isn't capable of producing 60 watts unless your car is a 50 volt car, which I'm pretty sure it's not.  The 60 watts is just an advertising ploy.

    You can't run subs off the stereo, so really the only thing you need to worry about when considering subs if whether you have preamp outputs.  If you do, you are good to go.  If not, then you'll need to use a hi-low converter.


  2. More watt = more power = louder.

    If it is too loud, it can "blow" the sub. But at 60 watt, that is not considered very powerful.  Most subs can handle at least that much.

  3. what really matters is the wattage of the amp you get..the bigger and more watts the amp the more your subs are going to thump..but yea if your stereo is stock your going to have to get a low-high converter..i would recommend getting an aftermarket stereo from your local car audio dealership, best buy or circuit city works too...but the higher in price the stereo deck the better they are in most cases.
