  1. liquid core

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun

  3. A core of molten iron!

  4. it is MOLTEN PLASMA.....sometimes mentioned as the fourth state of matter

  5.   The core would be fluid but very dense.

  6. There are huge gigantic craters and volcanoes thousands of miles wide that spew out lava and explosions that come from inside of it. That's why there are 'spots' when viewed under a telescope (of images since not good for eye to look directly at the sun).

Quote: "The core of the Sun is considered to extend from the center to about 0.2 solar radii. It has a density of up to 150,000 kg/m³ (150 times the density of water on Earth) and a temperature of close to 13,600,000 kelvin (by contrast, the surface of the Sun is around 5,800 kelvin)."

That article also states that the Sun makes up 99.8% of the mass of the Solar System! That's how huge it is! The other .02% is made up of the Planets, moons, comets and meteors.

So if the sun were the size of Earth with a surface area of 197,060,800 miles, .02% would be about 39,000 the size of the state of Maine (33,000 sq ft).

  7. Hi Matthew B,

Hot gasses/solid core, plasma all in one I'd have to say.  But the sun also fantastic for tanning & tan lines.  Have a good AM. :0)

Additional Details: to many questions for me to do again but did manage a few stars & that should help.  Are you still here in the AM hours too? (considering you in different country then the good old USA).  Off to chatty chat.

  8. Since the temperature at the core of the sun is over 13 million K, solids and gases can't exist that hot. As others noted it is a plasma of mostly hydrogen nuclei that are continually fusing into helium nuclei.

  9. It's more like a super dense viscous fluid.

  10. Very dense plasma.

  11. No, it is a plasma. Even at the high pressures it will stay plasma. When the fusion process inside the sun stops, the collapse will cause the plasma to compress to so high pressures that a degenerate matter will be created - which is simply speaking, any kind of matter which is not quite like it should be.

  12. I just came back from there last week, and saw Elvis ! If Elvis is rocking the Sun, u can safely assume it has a SOLID core .
