I saw a documentary about this and it apparently affects 30% of the population...however, It affects ALL of my family except my Husband....who says we are all FREAKS!!! lol.

so I want to disprove this and would like to see more than 30% say yes!

The documentary also said the cause but I can't remember what it is...I know it isn't allergy/hayfever related

  1. No

  2. yes its the light intensity

  3. I know that I've heard of this before but thought it was a hoax.  However my 4 month old always sneezes when the sun hits his face for the first time.  I thought it was dust related. . .I can't believe it's actually a real phenomenon!

  4. LOL... it's always done this to me... ironically, this is the first time in my 28 years of life that I even thought about the sun NOT doing this to people!  I thought it was totally normal!

It really sucked back in high school marching band... we had to stand at attention, head up, eyes forward... try doing this early in the morning when the sun comes up over the horizon and NOT have a sneezing fit! LOL

On a side note, supposedly when you sneeze, it is the closest a person can get to an o****m without additional physical stimulation... I would say that you are a lucky person if you can sneeze repeatedly just from the sun's rays! Hahaha

I would be curious to know where you saw this documentary... I want more info on it now too! :)

  5. yer its does me when the sun is low in the sky

    my nose tickles to

  6. It can it happens all the time to my brother if he looks at sun every now and then.

  7. Yes, sunlight causing sneezing is a medical condition called "photic sneeze reflex."

    wiki Summary:

"Photic sneeze reflex is a genetic autosomal dominant trait, which causes sneezing when exposed suddenly to bright light, possibly many times consecutively....The condition affects 17 to 35 percent of humans."

    wiki Explanation:

"The probable cause is a congenital malfunction in nerve signals in the trigeminal nerve nuclei. The fifth cranial nerve, called the trigeminal nerve, is apparently responsible for sneezes. Research suggests that some people have an association between this nerve and the nerve that transmits visual impulses to the brain. Overstimulation of the optic nerve triggers the trigeminal nerve, and this causes the photic sneeze reflex.

Another theory suggests that tears leaking into the nose through the nasolacrimal duct are a cause of the photic sneeze reflex. The speed of the reflex seems to favor the first theory, as it happens much too quickly for tears to be generated and drain into the nose. In addition this sneeze reflex can be brought on by a sudden inhaling of cold air or a strong flavor such as a strong mint gum. This implies an overstimulation of any nerve close to the trigeminal nerve can cause the sneeze reflex."

  8. oh yes .... i feel like the arrays of sun are going in my nose lol.. id like to know the reason?!

  9. Yes the sun makes me sneeze... If i have a sneeze coming but don't quite get it out, i look up at the sun and sneeze everytime..

  10. Yes this happens to me and my dad but especially when i look at a light bulb at night time is well for me

  11. I would unfortunately have to agree with your husband..you are a freak.  In order to prevent this condition from worsening, you should really become a vampire and only come out at night.  If you do not seek treatment for this condtion, it could worsen rapidly, thus making you suck blood from humans during the daylight hours.  Yes, you will appear to look like an albino, however, you will no longer have your sneezing attacks.  Thank you for your question & good luck to you.

  12. Unfortunately, YES!
