Does the term "you people" when said to you offend you?

Why? Does it matter how the person says it or what they are talking about?

  1. That term definately does not set well with me! It puts a person into a category, rather than giving them the respect of being referred to as an individual... which is what we are... individuals... and each of us deserves to be treated as such. Grouping people together in that particular way suggests disrespect right off the bat. It's not like saying, "the members of the committee", or, "the missionaries", or, "the cheerleading squad", or, whatever. It's more like saying, "your kind, or type, or something like that, which involves an assumption, and even a judgement... and, in my opinion, that's just wrong.


  2. It doesn't bother me but it has been getting a little cliche in movies these days.

  3. Yeah. Just in general. I hate it that people would stereotype anybody like that in any way.  

  4. It's all in the tone of voice. If said in an angry tone, people will take offense to it because they think you'd mean it in an offensive manner.
