Does the webbing between dogs' feet have to do with their genetics?

  1. Yes, I believe so. Although domesticated dogs are almost genetically identical to their forebear--the wolf--they have been bred over the ages to fulfill different roles for mankind. The most noticable webbed feet I've ever seen were on wolf breeds and northern dogs like Huskies and Malamutes. They were bred in cold, snowy climes for so long that they developed these webs for better floatation in snow. Like built-in snowshoes.


  2. yes.  Some dogs have it in their genes to be water dogs

    golden retrievers are one and labs are another.  They have webs to help them swim faster
