i am a mid to high handicapper with a draw/hook looking to add distance my accuracy is ok if i swing at 90% or under.

  1. Always use the weight that gives you the most accuracy.  Hitting the ball further in the wrong spot does you no good.  Your driver is all about placement on the course.

  2. I asked a question like this to the Gear Doc at golf.com, and he said that with heavier shafts you lose distance, but gain accuracy... that's why Tiger Woods uses an 83g shaft for his driver.  He has no problems with distance, but the heavier shaft helps him feel the clubhead through the swing, letting him know when his clubface is square.

On the other end of the spectrum, Taylormade offers drivers with 50g shafts, which is supposed to increase an average person's clubhead speed- thus granting him/her more distance... the trade-off is accuracy.  It shouldn't be too much trouble for a normally slower swinger, though.
